P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences development is declared the best innovative product at Seoul Fair
The cutting-edge developments of P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been displayed at Seoul International Invention Fair 2019 held from November 27 to 30, 2019 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, Institute of Oceanology said in its release.
The Fair is the largest Asian exhibition devoted to innovations and science-intensive products. The Institute’s exposition included two high-end developments unveiled for the Asian market: ocean moored profiler Aqualog highly appreciated by the expert committee in “Environmental protection” class and long-term broadband ocean bottom seismometer awarded with a special prize of King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. Aqualog profiler developed by the Institute is intended for long-term monitoring of sea environment and, specifically, climate change studies. Thanks to smooth and slow movement the profiler ensures simultaneous assessment of ocean differential and integral characteristics to record vertical profiles. Moreover, Aqualog is an ideal platform for collecting in-situ data amidst the most severe environmental conditions where traditional onboard measurements are unfeasible since it may be deployed for long periods of time.
The topicality of the Institute’s product was acknowledged by the management of Samsung corporation who noted Russian contribution into the development of new technologies designed for environment preservation and expressed interest in using Aqualog for monitoring natural and technogeneous geochemical anomalies, prevention of natural and manmade disasters in Korea.
Within the framework of negotiations held during the Fair the representatives of GCC Patent Office and experts of oil & gas companies from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait were presented with technical characteristics of the Institute’s technologies. The parties discussed further steps to introduce Russian products to the market of the Gulf Arab states, including registration and protection of the Institute’s patent rights therein. Russian innovations in various science and industry domains were exhibited within the complex exposition hosted by the International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies “Archimedes” attended by hundreds of guests.
