Nigeria Ports handle 13 million mt of non-oil export
Non crude oil export cargo handled by Nigerian Ports in Year 2005 was 13.5million tonnes, shipped to 95 different countries.
According to a release from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), 4.5million tonnes or 33% of the total went to the United States of America, while 2.8million tonnes or 21% went to the United Kingdom.
France got 1.5million tonnes or 11%. Germany is the only other country that received 1million tonnes or 7% of the non-crude oil exports.
There were no significant exports to the West African Sub-region. Senegal and Ghana, however, received 120,000 and 95,000 tonnes respectively.
The 244,000 tonnes exported to Angola is the most to an African Nation.
Countries that received over 100,000, tonnes of non-crude oil export cargo are:-(in Million tonnes) United States of America 4.5, United Kingdom 2.8, France 1.5, Germany 1.0, and Spain 0.9.
Others are Netherlands 0.6, Belgium 0.4, Angola 0.2, Malta 0.2, and Senegal 0.1.
Commodity analysis of the Non Crude Oil Exports handled by Nigerian Ports shows that Liquefied Natural Gas made up 83% and Refined Petroleum Product 10%. General Cargo is 5% of the total while Dry Bulk Cargo (Animal feed, Cocoa Beans) etc made up the remaining 2%.
