Cargo turnover of Caucasus port grew in January-September 2006 by 12% to 5.3 million tons

Cargo turnover of Caucasus port grew in January-September 2006 by 12% to 5 300.32 thou tons. This information has been provided to PortNews IAA at Taman branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Transshipment of export cargoes amounted over nine months to 1 254.01 thou tons (+39.67% against year-on-year result). Road transshipment amounted to 3 427.69 thou tons (-3.23% against year-on-year result). Import grew by a factor of 2.1 to 618.62 thou tons. Over the reported period the port handled 1 752 vessels (+23% against year-on-year result).

The port of Caucasus is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch strait from the side of Russia. The port of Caucasus is ice-free, so it has the ability to operate both with river vessels (depth up to 4.5 meters), and with sea vessels (at the road). The territory is crossed by the port’s own railroad line. It is 2600 meters long. The port’s berths first of all transship dry bulk cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
