HHLA Project Logistics coordinates first transhipment in Hamburg

HHLA Project Logistics, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has successfully completed its first transhipment operation in the Port of Hamburg, according to the company's release.

The company, which specializes in project cargo handling in Asia, leveraged the expertise and network within the HHLA Group for this project. The operation involved the transhipment of six oversized passenger railway carriages, each measuring 17 to 22 meters in length and weighing between 20 and 47 tonnes.

Shipped from China by ocean-going vessel, the wagons were unloaded onto inland waterway vessels and transported to O'Swaldkai, HHLA's universal cargo terminal.

At O'Swaldkai, HHLA's subsidiary UNIKAI handled the cargo, including customs clearance. The wagons were then assembled on the terminal's rail tracks for onward transport to the Czech Republic.

This successful venture marks HHLA Project Logistics' entry into the German market and showcases the capabilities of the Port of Hamburg.
