The Port of Vancouver orders the installation of new navigation aids in eastern Burrard Inlet

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has commissioned the installation of new navigation aids in eastern Burrard Inlet to improve safety and efficiency for ships transiting the Second Narrows waterway, according to the company's release.

The project includes the installation of two solar-powered range lights and a sector light off Berry Point, along with the illumination of the Second Narrows Rail Bridge pillars.

These enhancements are expected to increase nighttime transit windows for larger ships, boosting efficiency and fluidity in this key trade area.

The navigation aids will support more than 500 cargo ship calls per year to seven terminals in eastern Burrard Inlet. This initiative follows comprehensive risk and site assessments conducted in collaboration with key maritime stakeholders.

The new navigation aids are scheduled to be operational by late-April, following trials by the Pacific Pilotage Authority and BC Coast Pilots.
