China's foreign trade up to record high in 2024

China's foreign trade achieved a record high of RMB43.85 trillion ($5.98 trillion) in 2024, reflecting a 5% year-over-year increase.  

According to the General Administration of Customs, exports surged by 7.1% to RMB25.45 trillion, while imports grew at a more modest 2.3% to RMB18.39 trillion.  

Key export drivers included electromechanical products, which accounted for 59.4% of total exports and saw an 8.7% increase.

High-end equipment exports demonstrated strong growth, exceeding 40%. Exports of electric vehicles, 3D printers, and industrial robots surged by 13.1%, 32.8%, and 45.2%, respectively.  

Trade with Belt and Road Initiative partner countries continued to expand, increasing by 6.4% year-over-year and constituting 50.3% of China's total trade value.  

ASEAN remained China's largest trading partner for the fifth consecutive year, with trade growing by 9% year-over-year, marking nine consecutive years of growth.  

Bilateral trade with the EU, a major source of consumer goods imports and a key export market for electromechanical products, increased by 1.6%. Trade with the United States also saw growth, rising by 4.9%.
