Cargo turnover of Arkhangelsk port up 18.5% in January-September

Cargo turnover of Arkhangelsk port amounted in January-September 2006 to 3 935.638 thou tons (-18.5% against year-on-year result), Administration of the Sea Port of Arkhangelsk reported to PortNews IAA. The port’s stevedoring companies accepted 283.416 thou tons of cargo (+ 15.9% against year-on-year result). This result includes 136.872 thou tons of import cargo (+ 91.2%), 146.545 thou tons of coastwise cargo (- 3.9%). The structure of import is the following: container turnover - 36.158 thou tons (- 40.4%), machines and equipment – 1.723 thou tons (9.3 times as much as in January-September of 2005), other general cargo - 98.991 thou tons (9.2 times as much as year-on-year result). The structure of incoming coastwise cargo is the following: container turnover - 7.309 thou tons (-1.1%), transshipment of metals - 13.300 thou tons (-1.4%), transshipment of metal scrap decreased by 26.5% to 4.540 thou tons. Transshipment of other general cargo amounted to 106.945 thou tons (- 5%).

Besides, through the reported period the port of Arkhangelsk shipped 3 652.221 thou tons (- 21.5%) of cargo including export of 1 053.741 thou tons (- 47.2%), coastwise cargo – 2 598.480 thou tons (- 2.2%). The structure of export is the following: oil and oil products - 74.462 thou tons (decreased by a factor of 12.7 against year-on-year result). Container turnover amounted to 34.129 thou tons (- 27.7%). Timber transshipment amounted to 469.923 thou tons (- 12.5%), transshipment of metal scrap amounted to 163.688 thou tons (+ 16.8%), coal and coke – 164.487 thou tons (+ 16.8%). Transshipment of other general cargo - 8.670 thou tons (4.8 times as much as against year-on-year result). The structure of coastwise dispatched cargo ifs the following: oil and oil products - 2 219.466 thou tons (- 6.6%), machines and equipment – 7.149 thou tons (- 47.7%), metal – 54.270 thou tons (+ 16.8%), other general cargo – 208.508 thou tons (decreased by a factor of 2.5 against year-on-year result). Coal transshipment amounted to 39.574 thou tons (+ 49.1%). Container turnover - 63.759 thou tons (- 42.7%).

Arkhangelsk is the largest seaport in the Northern region of Russia. Seaport of Arkhangelsk accepts vessels with a draft up to 9.2 meters, length up to 175 meters, breadth up to 30 meters. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft- Arkhangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. Arkhangelsk port is crossed by cargo transit lines from Europe to the states of the Far, Middle and Near East.
