Cargo turnover of Vostochnyj port down 2.2% in January-September

Cargo turnover of Vostochnyj port decreased in January-September 2006 by 2.2% to 15 271.1 thou tons, Eastern Branch of Rosmorport FSUE reported to PortNews IAA. Transshipment of general cargo amounted through the reported period to 2 133.4 thou tons (-14.4% against year-on-year result) including container turnover of 1 934.2 thou tons (-5.4%), transshipment of metal scrap amounted to 65.4 thou tons (-16.5%), transshipment of pipes decreased by a factor of 3.7 to 86.9 thou tons. Transshipment of machines and equipment grew by 16% to 2.1 thou tons. Transshipment of timber amounted through nine months to 287.8 thou tons (+54.2%), bulk cargo – 12 828.6 thou tons (+0.1%) including coal and coke of 12 140.5 thou tons (+5.6%), potassium salt – 658.0 thou tons (-13.4%). Transshipment of ore decreased by a factor of 18.5 to 30.1 thou tons. Transshipment of dry bulk cargo decreased by a factor of 5.9 to 21.3 thou tons.

Vostochnyj port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan  within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
