Cargo turnover of Malyj Port stevedoring company up 52.1% in January-September

Cargo turnover of Malyj Port stevedoring company (Vostochnyj port) grew in January-September 2006 by 52.1% year-on-year, amounting to 455.3 thou tons, Eastern Branch of Rosmorport FSUE reported to PortNews IAA. Through the reported period the company handled 91.7 thou tons of general cargo (-12.5% against year-on-year result) including growth of container turnover by a factor of 4.8 to 37.3 thou tons. Transshipment of metal scrap decreased by a factor of 2.5 to 31.6 thou tons. Through nine months of the year the company handled 32.0 thou tons of timber (4.9-times decrease against year-on-year result January-September 2005). Cargo turnover of bulk cargo amounted to 331.6 thou tons (8.6-times growth against year-on-year result).

Malyj Port stevedoring company was founded in October 1992 on the basis of three berths of Vostochnyj port. The berths are located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the north-western shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka. The berths are deep enough to handle vessels with a draft up to 7.5 meters. The terminal carries out transshipment of general, bulk and timber cargo. Ice-free water territory, harbor protected from winds and large depth enable the port to accept the vessels with a tonnage up to 6000 all year round. The port is open for foreign vessel’s calls.
