Germany could become energy distribution center for Europe - Putin

Germany could become a major center for the distribution  of  energy  resources  in  Europe  in  the future, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"I would like to elaborate on the increasing interaction between Russian and German  companies  in  the  energy  sphere,"  Putin  said at a press conference  in  Dresden. "By all appearances, this avenue of cooperation
could be  even  more significant, which could turn Germany from simply a consumer of Russian gas and oil into a major center for the distribution of these products in Europe.
"This is our significant and substantial contribution to European energy security," he added.
Putin said  German Chancellor Angela Merkel and he had discussed aspects of successful implementation of previous bilateral agreements at earlier negotiations.
"The implementation  of projects in the energy, transportation, aircraft manufacturing,   and   automobile manufacturing   sectors   and   also
infrastructural projects is being continued steadily," Putin said.
Russia and  Germany  have signed a number of documents on cooperation in the humanities  area and the financial sector, Putin said. On Wednesday,
Russia and  Germany will sign an interstate agreement on diplomatic real estate in  Berlin. The same day, Russia will open a consulate general in Frankfurt.
Putin recalled  that  Russia  repaid  all  its  debt to Germany ahead of schedule in August.
"We have  transferred  1.125  billion euro to Berlin," he said. "This is clear evidence  of  the  fact  that  my  country's economy is developing successfully  and  that  Russia  is a reliable partner for our principal
counteragents in Europe."
