Throughput of Latvia’s ports up 2.5% in Jan.-Apr. 07, y-o-y

In January-April 2007, the ports of Latvia handled 20.149 million tons (+2.5%, year-on-year), Latvia’s Ministry of Communications reports according to RZD-Partner. The highest handling results were demonstrated by the port of Ventspils - 10.414 million tons (+8.8%, year-on-year) including 6.515 million tons of liquid bulk cargo (+7.9%), 3.042 million tons of loose cargo (+11.7%), 856.3 thou tons of general cargo (+5.7%).The port of Riga accounts for the second largest result - 7.963 million tons of cargo (-5.1%) including 4.588 million tons of loose cargo (-11.2%), 1.629 million tons of liquid bulk cargo (+1.6%), 1.746 million tons of general cargo (+ 7.4%).The port of Liepaja handled 1.347 million tons (-2%) including 601.6 thou tons of loose cargo (+12.3%), 463.4 thou tons of general cargo (-11.4%), 281.6 of liquid bulk cargo (-10.5%).

Total throughput of Latvia’s seven minor ports totaled 425.8 thou tons in January-April 2007 (+36.6%, year-on-year) including 8.426 million tons of liquid bulk cargo (+5.9%), 8.406 million tons of loose cargo (-1.4%). Transshipment of oil products amounted to 7.245 million tons (-2.3%), coal - 4.504 million tons (-14.6%), general cargo - 3.317 million tons (+4.6%). In 2006, Latvia’s handled 59.497 million tons of cargo (-0.9%, year-on-year), in January-April 2006, they handled 19.653 million tons of cargo.
