RZhD and TransGroup to cover 25% of Russia’s car transportation market by 2012

The company being formed by RZhD OJSC and TransGroup LLC may cover up to 25% of Russia’s car transportation market and 70% of Russia’s railway transportation by 2012, Vadim Morozov, RZhD’s first vice-president says, according to RZhD-Partner. The terminal in the port of Zarubino is being built within the framework of this project. Its aim is transshipment and storage of motorcars. When the first phase is put into operation, monthly volume of railway transportation is to reach from 2 to 4 thou cars with further increase up to 8 thou cars after commissioning of the second phase. Similar works are being carried out at Mikhnevo station of Moscow Railway – branch of RZhD OJSC, – Vadim Morozov reported.

According to him, major part of RZhD’s profit is to be invested into renewal of the wagon fleet and development of the terminal complex. So it is planned to increase wagon fleet by 4633 of covered auto-rack cars by 2007, with introduction of land terminals at Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Novisibersk, Kaliningrad, Almaty (Kazakhstan), Kiev (Ukraine). Besides, seaports of Muuga (Estonia) and Vladivostok (the Far East)  are also to be used as motor car terminals.
