Volume of cargo handled by Arkhangelsk STP up 9.2% in Jan.-Sep.

Volume of cargo handled by Arkhangelsk Sea Trade Port (ASTP OJSC) grew in January-September 2006 by 9.2% compared to the similar period of the previous year and amounted to 1 161.2 thou tons, the company reports. Import amounted to 134.2 thou tons, 2.1 times more than in the same period of last year. Import cargo flow comes to Arkhangelsk mainly from Europe. Then these flows usually go to Central Russia and KAzakhstan.

Coastwise cargo amounted over the reported period to 398.5 thou tons (-17.7% against year-on-year result). Export transshipment of cargo amounted to 562.0 thou tons (- 5.6%). The majority of export cargo handled in the port come from Arkhangelsk region, Ural, Komi and Siberia to Germany, Netherlands, North America, Canada.

Arkhangelsk Sea Trade Port is a multi-profile stevedoring company operating at the port of Arkhangelsk. It is specialized on transshipment of general cargo, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metal, fertilizers, heavy equipment and dry bulk cargo. ASTP’s facilities enable it to handle 4.5 million tons of cargo per year. In 2005 the company’s cargo turnover amounted to 1.363 million tons.
Major shareholders of ASTP OJSC are Norilsk Nickel Company – 53.5% of shares, Federal Property Management Agency (Rosimushchestvo) -20%, North Shipping Company – 19.7%.
