Fifty-six orders expected for 12,500-TEU vessels: study

Expectations are high that the number of 12,500-TEU Panamax newbuilds on order could rise to 56 in future, provided all the planned orders are confirmed as fixed.
A report published in AXS-Alphaliner News noted that there are also "possible hidden plans from carriers such as Maersk, MSC or Evergreen."
All of the vessels are likely to be delivered between 2010 and 2011.
At present, 20 of the containerships have been firmly ordered at Samsung, DSME and Hanjin-Philippines. Hyundai HI and STX are said to have come up with their own vessel designs, which are reported to have attracted interest from mainly non-vessel operating owners. The ships would be chartered.
