Railway Freight Transportation in Ukraine up 6% in Jan.-Sep.

According to data, provided by Ukrainian State Statistics Committee, Ukrainian railways transported 348 million tons of cargo in January-September 2006 (+6% or +19.6 million tons against year-on-year result). Cargo turnover amounted over the reported period to 175.7 billion tons/km (+7.8% or +12.7 billion tons/km), RZD-Partner reports. The dynamics of the year-on-year period was the following -3.9% (-13.3 million tons) and -6.7% (-11.6 billion tons/km). Growth of cargo turnover was demonstrated by all regional railways: South-Western - +14.3%; Southern - +10.3%; Dnieper and Donetsk – +6.6% each; Lvov - +6.3; Odessa - +4.2%. Year-on-year growth of cargo turnover was demonstrated in 2005 by only three railways (South-Western,  Southern and Dnieper), while other railways had a cargo turnover decrease through the same period in 2005.

The share of cargo dispatched grew over the reported period by 4.6% (+12.8 million tons) against year-on-year result amounting to 291.3 million tons (83.6% of total railway transportation volume). In 2005 cargo dispatched through the same period decreased by -3% (-8.6 million tons). The share of cargo dispatched in total railway transportation volume was 84.7%.
