Cargo turnover of Latvian ports up 1% in 9M06
Cargo transshipment of Latvian ports amounted in January-September 2006 to 45.303 million tons (+1% against year-on-year result), Latvian Ministry of Communications reports according to RZD-Partner. The majority of cargo was handled by Ventspils port – 21.984 million tons (+1.4%), mostly liquid bulk cargo - 13.79 million tons including oil products - 11.886 million tons (-8.1%). Transshipment of dry bulk cargo amounted to 6.32 million tons (-20%), general cargo - 1.874 million tons (3.4 times more). The second place is taken by Riga port - 19.486 million tons of cargo (+6.6%). The largest share falls on dry bulk cargo - 12.042 million tons (+11%) including coal - 8.52 million tons (+7.2%), general cargo - 3.772 million tons (-21.8%), liquid bulk cargo - 3.671 million tons (+41.1%), including oil products - 3.624 million tons (+46.2%). Then comes Liepaja port- 3.011 million tons (-10.1%), including dry bulk cargo - 1.165 million tons (+18.7%), general cargo - 1.097 million tons (-41.8%), liquid bulk cargo - 749.3 thou tons (+54.1%). Cargo turnover of Latvia’s seven minor ports amounted in January-September to 822.1 thou tons (-11.4%), including dry bulk cargo - 19.84 million tons (-1.1%), including coal - 11.517 million tons (+0.8%); liquid bulk cargo - 18.21 million tons (+7.6%), including oil products - 15.738 million tons (+1.8%); general cargo - 7.253 million tons (-7.8%). In 2005 cargo turnover of Latvia’s ten ports amounted to 60.042 million tons (+4.6% against 2004).
