Ennore, Mumbai ports to build shipyards

The Centre has asked the Ennore Port Trust and Mumbai Port Trust to develop large shipyards. Ennore Port would be the nodal agency for developing a shipyard along the eastern coast while Mumbai Port would be in charge of developing a shipyard on the west coast. Both the shipyards will be of international standards. The shipyards would be developed on public-private partnership basis, A.K. Mohapatra, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, disclosed at the India Shipping Summit 2006 held in Mumbai recently.
The two-day summit was co-organised by Sea Trade and Trade Winds. Various dignitaries like Rani Jadhav, Chairman, MbPT; Rishi Agarwal, CEO & MD, ABG Shipyard; and Yudhishthir Khatau, MD, Varun Shipping, and President, Indian National Shipowners' Association, were present. Presentations and discussions on topics of port infrastructure development & container transport, ship finance, energy transportation for sustaining India's growth, and shipbuilding and ship repair also took place.
