Russian Railways ships 31% more crude oil to China in 9 mths

East Siberian Railways (VSZD), a subsidiary of Russian Railways, shipped 7.554 million tonnes of crude oil to China in the first nine months of 2006, up 31% year-on-year, the railway's PR department said according to Interfax.

The company shipped about 6.268 million tonnes via the border crossing at Zabaikalsk (up 66%) and just over 1.268 million tonnes via Naushki (a drop of 36%).

This September VSZD transported over 851,000 tonnes of oil, up 30% year-on-year, including 799,000 tonnes through Zabaikalsk and about 52,000 tonnes through Naushki.

Oil transport by rail to China may fall 25% to 8.8 million tonnes in 2007.

In 2006 East Siberian Railways plans to transport up to 11.8 million tonnes of crude to China.

East Siberian Railways passes through four Russian regions; Irkutsk, Chita, Buryatia and Yakutia.
