Throughput of Vostochny port up 7.9% in Jan-Aug 07, y-o-y

In January-August 2007, throughput of Vostochny port climbed by 7.9%, year-on-year, to 14.599.1 million tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of Rosmorport FSUE. In the reported period transshipment of general cargo totaled 2.203.4 million tonnes (+16.5%, year-on-year). Container turnover made 2.138.7 million tonnes (+25.5%), transshipment of scrap metal decreased 3.5 times to 16,600 tonnes. Transshipment of machines and equipment fell by 11.1% to 1,600 tonnes. In the 8-month period the port handled 255,900 tonnes of forest cargo (+0.2 %), 12.112.4 million tonnes of bulk cargo (+6.6%) including 11.429.1 million tonnes of coal and coke (+6.4%) and 683,300 of mineral fertilizers (+15.3%). In January-August 07, no loose cargo was handled in the port. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 27,400 tonnes (in January-August 06, no liquid bulk cargo was handled in the port).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
