Commercial seaport of Nakhodka cuts throughput by 21.9% in Jan-Aug 07, y-o-y

In January-August 2007, commercial seaport of Nakhodka decreased its throughput by 21.9%, year-on-year, to 4.390.5 million tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of Rosmorport FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo totaled 2.853.8 million tonnes (-32.7%, year-on-year) including 128,300 tonnes of containerized cargo (-25.4%), 2.575.9 million tonnes of metal (-34.3%), 12.900 tonnes of metal scrap (down 1.9 times). Transshipment of timber totaled 1.471.3 million tonnes (+12.3%) including 1.182.6 million tonnes of round timber (+8.8%), 65,400 tonnes of sawn timber (+29.8%). In the reported period, the port handled 288,700 tonnes of bulk cargo (-7.2%, year-on-year) including 7,600 tonnes of coal and coke (-17.4%, year-on-year), 57,800 tonnes of ore (down 1.1 times, year-on-year).

Nakhodka port is located on both coasts in the northern part of Nakhodka Bay. The port has year round navigation. It is linked with railway systems of Russia and Western Europe by Trans-Siberian Line.
