In January-August 2007, throughput of Rostovski Port OJSC exceeded 1 million tonnes up 10.5%, year-on-year (in 2006 – 980,300 tonnes), the port’s administration reports according to yugmedia.ru. The basis of the throughput is formed by scrap metal, alumina, metal and betonite clay.
According to the source, transshipment of import cargo grew by 51.5% year-on-year to 416,700 tonnes (in 2006 – 275,000), while the volume of export cargo fell by 6.7% year-on-year (from 688,900 to 642,900 tonnes). Transshipment of internal and cooperated cargo totaled 22,900 tonnes, the source said.
Rostovski Port OJSC was set up in 1993. The port of Rostov is located on both sides of the Don river within the limits of Rostov. It comprises 18 automated cargo berths fitted with 37 cranes. Total quay length is 2549 meters. Sixteen 5,000-dwt vessels with draft of up to 4 meters may be simultaneously handled at the port’s berths. The port’s capacity is 11.3 thou tonnes per day as the port station may handle up to 126 wagons per day.
