The largest Russian tanker operates in Baltic

January 9, 2008 the largest suezmax tanker “PRISCO Alcor” began to operate in Baltic. The above-mentioned tanker of 166 000 mts deadweight owned by PRISCO called at Primorsk (Leningrad region) in order to lift crude oil cargo.

It’s for the first time now that the suezmax tanker “PRISCO Alcor” will lift a full “suezmax size” cargo. Up to this day at Primorsk terminal suezmax tankers have lifted parcels of  crude oil of aframax tanker size only and they haven’t used full cargo carrying capacity. The above-mentioned situation used to occur especially in Danish Straits because of restricted draft of tankers. Suezmax tanker “PRISCO Alcor” of 166 000 mts deadweight is designed and built for operation in  Baltic. Thanks to its characteristics: length of 285 m, breadth of 50 m and draft of 15 m the tanker can lift full “suezmax size” cargo and operate in restricted depth areas such as Baltic and Danish Straits.

Tanker “PRISCO Alcor” is bult for transportation of bulk liquid cargos under the conditions of freezing seas. This tanker has double hull and steel screw and can safety operate under the conditions of negative degrees up to -25 degree Celsius. Unique steel screw designed and constructed by “Zvyozdochka” factory is one of the biggest steel screws in the world fixed to the commercial ship. On September, 2007 up-to-date tanker was introduced into operation. This tanker is built by Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard (South Korea) which is world leader in shipbuilding.

The tanker is staffed by Russian crew.
