Rotterdam port lands loan to fund expansion
The port of Rotterdam, the world's second largest, got a 900 million euro, or $1.35 billion (Canadian), loan from the European Investment Bank to fund expansion.
The port and the EIB signed a financing contract for the first 100 million euros of the loan, the Luxembourg-based bank said yesterday.
The expansion project, known as Maasvlakte 2, will start in the second half of next year, the EIB said.
The harbour plans to build a new set of facilities in 2008 that will handle imports from China and stem a loss of business to Germany and Belgium.
