Evergreen renews berth contract at the Port of Kaohsiung
Evergreen Marine has renewed the contract to lease its berths at Taiwan's Port of Kaohsiung, effective from March 1 until February 2018.
The two berths which Evergreen has been leasing since 1987 cover an aggregate quay length of 596 metres and an area of 206,480 square metres. They are equipped with six quay cranes, 26 gantry cranes and six stackers. Last July, Evergreen renewed the lease on No 79, No 80 and No 81 berths.
Taipei-based Evergreen is the carrier that uses the most of the berths at Kaohsiung. From January to November last year, Evergreen Kaohsiung throughput grew 13 per cent year on year.
In the company news release, Evergreen said the renewal decision was made because of Kaohsiung's favourable location at the centre of the Asia-Pacific region as well as for its high handling efficiency.
