Zim strengthens East Africa Service

Israeli shipping line Zim Integrated Shipping Services (Zim) is upgrading its East Africa service, known as EAS, in a bid to overcome "frequent port congestion".
Starting this month, the carrier will operate three vessels on a 10-day frequency. The port rotation for the EAS will be Durban, Mombasa, Djibouti, Mombasa, returning to Durban. A round trip will take 30 days, a company statement said.
Zim said the port of Djibouti will be used as a relay hub for cargo from Asia, Europe, the Mediterranean and America by connecting to ZIM's network through the Far East Mediterranean Express Service (FMX).
It said the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania will be served via Durban through a feeder, the Express Kilimanjaro, which will also call at Nacala and Beira for cargo in Mozambique.
The feeder's transit time between Durban and Dar-es-Salaam is three days, with a frequency of 15 days. The port rotation for the feeder service will be: Durban, Dar es Salaam, Nacala/Beira and back to Durban.
"These changes, to ensure schedule reliability in a situation of frequent port congestion, are aimed at better serving ZIM customers in the region," the company statement added.
