New surcharges at Pakistan's container ports

In Pakistan, foreign container companies have decided to impose terminal congestion surcharges on all imports from February 1st.
The surcharge will be imposed on import cargo landing in Karachi at the Karachi International Container Terminal and Pakistan International Container Terminal and Qasim International Container Terminal at Port Qasim.
Shipping companies have been suffering losses due to congestion at the terminals in the aftermath of the law and order situation that prevailed following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
About 2,000 trailers loaded with containers were burnt down in the violence, which has caused serious shortage of transportation of export and import cargo.
