Far Eastern Freight Conference volume up 19pc to Europe

In what must be its last annual Europe cargo report, the Far Eastern Freight Conference, which is to be banned by he EU this October, has reported that container volume in the westbound Asia to Europe and Mediterranean trade increased 19 per cent in 2007 to 9.51 million TEU.
FEFC's eastbound figures only go to November but show an increase of 5.3 per cent after 11 months to 3.05 million TEU. The FEFC's 17 member lines control 70 per cent of Asia/Europe and Mediterranean capacity. FEFC members are ANL Container Lines, APL, CMA CGM, CSAV Norasia, Egyptian International Shipping, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, "K" Line, Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Co, MISC Berhad, MOL, NYK, OOCL, Safmarine, Yang Ming and Zim.
