RF Ministry of Transport has proposed to work out the measures aimed at insurance of safe navigation. In particular it proposes that estuary river ports should be given the status of seaports and river-and-sea going vessels should be transferred from the River Register of Russia to Russian Maritime Register, RF Transport Minister Igor Levitin told at the annual meeting of the Russian Ship Owners’ Union, AK&M reports.
According to the Minister, the majority of problems arise at the river-sea boundary. Thus it is necessary to improve control service operation and set up age limits for vessels.
The Minister also proposed establishment of a self-regulated maritime organization to be empowered with functions currently performed by execution bodies.
