The customs officers of Lubelskie voivodship of Poland have decided to wind up their protest action and return to their workplaces, Jacek Dominick, chief of the Polish customs service, announced on Monday night according to Itar-Tass.
It is reported here that the decision was decisively promoted by the mediation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who met with the chiefs of customs services of three voivodships (Podlaskie, Lubelskie, and Subcarpathian) in the city of Biala Podlaska in eastern Poland on Monday afternoon. The strike action had resulted in kilometres-long border traffic jams.
The Prime Minister promised the elaboration of a new law on the customs service and the payment of a monthly bonus of 500 zloty (about $200) to each customs officer. The bonus will be added in retrospect from January 1, 2008.
