CAP includes representatives from labour and shipping agencies, shipping lines, port terminal operators and the Companhia Docas do Estado de Sao Paulo (Codesp), Santos' port authority.
This decision by the Santos CAP has reportedly "delighted" cabotage and coastal carriers .
Directors from Hamburg Sud's Alianca Navegacao, Maersk's Mercosul Line and locally-flagged Log-In Logistica were said to be "extremely happy" with the extension.
One Santos container terminal manager was quoted by Lloyd's List saying that "shipping lines will save some money from this as not only the port authority but also the labour deal on handling cabotage boxes will also offer some discounts."
An estimated 220,000 TEUs of cabotage and transshipment containers were handled at Santos last year. The tax cut is estimated to have saved carriers some $2.8 million.
President of the Santos and Sao Paulo Ship-agents Association Jose Eduardo Lopes said the extension by the CAP members was "a liberal and well-timed move that deserves loud applause from the entire maritime community in Santos."
President of the Santos CAP Celso Quintanilha, said that "reducing tariffs and freeing up the market is definitely the way forward in Santos."
The current extension is the second such one in the past year.
