Port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) plans to complete construction of a passenger ferry terminal by 2010, PortNews IAA learnt at the exhibition TRANSRUSSIA 2008 from Arturas Drungilas, Marketing Director of Klaipeda State Seaport direction. The terminal is to be located in the center of the existing port. The construction is valued at EUR 20 million, the majority of which is the investments of European Union into berth construction with the rest falling on the budget. The terminal will be used for handling of ro-pax cargo. As of today, the port handles 4 million tonnes of ro-ro cargo, 300,000 trailers per year. The new terminal will make it possible to raise the throughput by 30-50%.
