PSA gets 'best global box terminal operator' award

Tuesday's 22nd Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) ceremony in Singapore saw global port operator PSA retain its pole positions for two key container handling titles.
PSA International Pte. Ltd. won the 'Best Global Container Terminal Operating Company' award for the fourth consecutive year.
PSA Singapore Terminals was voted 'Best Container Terminal – Asia (over 4 million TEUs per year)' for the 19th time.
PSA International group chairman Fock Siew Wah attributed the company's continuing success to its ability to “innovate and introduce systems and processes with the clear objective of staying relevant and providing the highest level of service to our customers”.
“Moreover, the synergies created from the teamwork amongst management, staff and unions have enabled PSA to always deliver our best,” he said. “The industry' vote of confidence, for which we are truly thankful, is further testimony of PSA's leadership.”
A senior official from an European container port highlighted to Portworld today the significance of teamwork between management, staff and union as brought up by Fock.
“Carriers and shippers rarely have to worry about strikes and work stoppages at Singapore and also most of PSA ports around the world,” said the port director.
“Many other ports have to grapple with inefficiencies with labour that sometimes completely shuts down operations.”
PSA handled 58.9 million TEUs of containers worldwide last year, of which 27 million TEUs were handled at PSA Singapore Terminals.
These 27 million TEUs formed the bulk of the 27.9 million TEUs the port of Singapore handled in total for 2007 to retain its title as the world's busiest container port.
AFSCA is an annual event aimed at identifying the best cargo transportation players in the world, covering seaports, airports, shipping lines, rail operators, container terminal operators, logistics service providers and other players in the freight and supply chain industries.
Voters include shipping lines, terminal operators, freight forwarders and shippers from across Asia.
