Maersk Line announces general rate increase from Mediterranean ports to North America

Maersk Line would like to announce a general rate increase effective 1 January 2010 from France Mediterranean ports to US and Canada amounting to USD 150/200 USD per 20'/40'.
The trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are still subject to unacceptable rate levels and the situation is unsustainable in the longer term. The rate increase is necessary to continue to operate our services with the high level of reliability our customers have come to expect from Maersk Line.
This is part of the rate restoration program communicated and planned for 2010, with the next increase planned for April 1st 2010 at USD 400/500 per 20'/40' for the general Mediterranean to North America trade.
