From March, 25th to December, 1st, 2009, Russian Volga Shipping Company cargo turnover fell 30 % from a year-ago period - to 4.6 million tones, the company press-service said in an interview with PortNews agency. The company though has had better indicators due to increase of high-tariff cargo transportations in 2009.
Total cargo export increased 74 % (3.4 million tones.), import cargoes transshipped - 26 % (1.2 million tones), 34 % and 66 % accordingly for the same period of last year.
The total amount of transportations on internal waterways has made 4.5 million tones, 18 % of the last year period, the decline caused by economic crisis.
The major cargoes on internal waterways navigation were metal (1.4 million tones) twofold of the last year report, and also sulphur (1.1 million tones, +49.3 %) and mineral fertilizers (0.65 million tones).
During winter time the shipping company has essential expenses for ships repair. Therefore at the moment the company authorities are planning to get the short-term credit.
The JS Volga Shipping Company is one of the major companies in Russia. The VSC transships cargoes, passengers on the Russian rivers and lakes. The company operates 250 passenger, cargo and mixed "inland-sea" ships. In 2008 the company transported 6.9 million tones of cargoes and 454 thousand passengers.
