Earlier, the railway infrastructure restricted capacity of the port. Passage of trains on trunk routes of the October Railway (part of New Port-Flower), crossing the port, used to delay the movement of vehicles to the main terminals of the company. Since now the port is quite independent of the main railway traffic, access to the port is clear of trucks, other vehicles that may increase the capacity of the port.
Construction of the road interchange with a tunnel near the pedestrian passage through the railway began in 2008. The project was implemented as a part of the program targeted at upgrading and developing infrastructure of Petrolesport (part of the federal target program "Modernization of transport system of Russia). The contract on the project became JSC Mostootryad-114.
Total investment in the construction exceeded 521.580 thousand rubles (excluding VAT). Built tunnel height of 5 meters includes three lanes in width 3,75 m each, two-lane security for 0,5 m wide lanes and service 0,75 m.
According to Edward Chovushyan, GM of Petrolesport, cargo is largely transported by truckers to the port. "The new transport interchange will provide the continuity process at the Petrolesport, permanent access to the port infrastructure and the throughput growth of specialized terminals", Mr Chovushyan said.
