Throughput at Ventspils port (Latvia) in January-November, 2009 down 5.4 % to 24.49 million tons

According to the port press-service, cargo turnover of port in Ventspils (Latvia) in January-November, 2009 has decreased by 5.4 % - to 24.49 million tonnes. Port transshipment handles 65.04 % bulked cargo, 29.48 % bulk cargo and 5.48 % general cargo.

Port in Ventspils is located at the mouth of the river Venta. It functions all-year-round, its area makes up 2623.9 hectares. The port is equipped with terminals for loading and unloading of oil, mineral oil, liquid chemicals, fertilizers, metal, production wood and a fishing industry, coal, containers and trailers Ro-Ro. The maximum depth of water area at port has been  increased to 17.5 metres. It allows to accept the largest vessels coming into Baltic sea: tankers AFRAMAX DWT 130 000. The terminal of liquid cargoes is equipped by 9 berths with depth of 11.5-17.5 metres, capable to accept vessels AFRAMAX DWT 130 000.
