FCS of Russia to discuss dispute with Latvian truckers at the meeting on 17-18 December, 2009 in Riga

Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia will discuss a dispute with Association of Latvian truckers to work out possible conditions for resolving the conflict at a meeting of the Transport Group of the Russo-Latvian commission for economic, scientific and technical, humanitarian and cultural cooperation, on 17-18 December 2009 in Riga, the FCS press service said.
According to earlier reports, Russian FCS had introduced since December 15, additional measures for customs control of Latvian truckers who had allegedly infringed Russian customs regulations while transporting goods through the territory of Russia.
As of now, the FCS of Russia has received information that the Latvian Association of International truckers "Latvijas auto" in cooperation with the Latvian officials is ready to take decisive steps to prevent violations of the customs legislation of Russia and unconditional compliance with the TIR Convention.
In his address, the president of "Latvijas auto" Mr. Trezinyn has informed the FCS that the mechanism had been worked out to meet all requirements of customs authorities of Russia to pay import duties and taxes to the extent of that unpaid by the guarantee of the TIR system for unfulfilled consignment by Latvian truckers to the certain customs offices.
"If coordinated actions will lead to expulsion of unreliable firms”, the FSC report reads, “from the list of international truck trafficking”. In this case and provided that we see sustainability in compensations for damages to Russia’s budget, the FCS will be considering the possibility of returning to the standard procedure of at customs offices", the FCS said.
