Emergency situation announced at the ship wreckage site

The Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations (MOE) said they had announced an emergency at the site of the wrecked ship off Sochi coast. To prevent oil spill to the sea waters the emergency team started yesterday pumping fuel. So far 18.5 tons of oil products have been pumped out of the fuel tanks.
However, the vessel tank full of fuel oil remains half-down the water. The pumping of water from the engine room continued for 3 hours but with no results. The ship aft had been reportedly seriously damaged. All emergency operations ceased Sunday 22.00 MT.
Representatives of the shipowner Trans Optimal Rostov company are expected today at the wreck site. The wrecked ship is said to be lifted and transported for further utilization at the ports of Tuapse or Novorossiysk. The Ministry said they would need at least two weeks to complete the job.

The officials say the wreck poses no threats to ecology of traffic there.
