Russ. Govt. establishes the boundaries of Makhachkala Port

The Russian government has set boundaries of the sea port of Makhachkala, the government’s press service said. The order (№ 1411-p) was signed on August 23, 2010.

Makhachkala - the Russia’s port is situated on the west coast of the Caspian Sea in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan. The port is accessible for navigation year round.

The port is focused on transshipment of crude oil, petroleum products, construction materials (gravel), grain, general and lumber cargo. Makhachkala is a gate for freight flows from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the Baltic States, as well as transits to Iran, Turkey, Central Asia and back. The Makhachkala rail station, a branch of the RZD’s North-Caucasian Railroad serves the port.

The state-owned Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port is the only stevedore company operating at the port. The company’s throughput in the first half of this year rose by 5.5% over H1, 2009 and amounted to 2.4 million tons.
