Russia may lift grain export ban, only after the next year’s harvest

The ban on exports of Russian grain could be lifted only after the corn harvest of 2011, Russian Prime Minister said at a meeting of the government presidium, Russ. Govt. press service reported.

"To protect our customers we had introduced a temporary ban on grain exports for the period prior to January 1st, 2011. And what we see now? We see that the grain is held back, waiting for some next steps. In order not to create unnecessary anxiety, to ensure stable and predictable environment economic activity for all market participants I find it necessary to note that the lifting of the export of grain may be considered only after the next year’s harvest to see the grain balance. And we should not allow any zigzagging here. Our grain producers and sellers should not worry, working on the basis of the objective conditions and focus on the needs of the domestic market", Mr. Putin said.
