SCF Group expands its presence in Russia's offshore development projects

The SCF Group’s fleet has increased further with the delivery of a supply vessel for the offshore oil producing platforms, named SCF Sakhalin.
The SCF Sakhalin is a supply vessel of the enhanced ice class and is on a long-term charter by Exxon Neftegas Ltd. to meet the demands of the producing platform for the Sakhalin-1 Project.
Main particulars of SCF Sakhalin, built in 2005, flying the flag of the Russian Federation:
Deadweight: 4,298 tonnes
Length, overall: 93.5 metres
Breadth, moulded: 21.23 metres
Clear deck area: 730 square metres
Deck cargo capacity: 1,500 tonnes
Ice Class: 1A
The vessel is the second supply ship in the Company’s fleet engaged in servicing Russia’s oil and gas offshore projects. The first one – Pacific Endurance – was put into operation in September 2009 to serve the Sakhalin-2 Project.
Seven ice-class shuttle tankers, owned by the SCF Group, provide seaborne transportation of energy from Russia’s offshore and above-the-Polar-Circle oil and gas fields:
- Aframax tankers of Victor Konetsky type are servicing the Sakhalin-1 Project
- Arctic Panamax tankers of Vasily Dinkov type are operating under the flag of the Russian Federation for the Varandey Project
- LNG tankers of Grand Aniva type are servicing the Sakhalin-2 Project
Referring to the SCF Sakhalin delivery, Aleksandr Kurtynin, Sovcomflot Vice-President, commented:
“Expanding our fleet of supply vessels to meet the needs of producing platforms is an important element of the Sovcomflot investment programme”.
The Sovcomflot Development Strategy for 2010-2015, approved by the Board of Directors, envisages “the creation of a national integrated offshore upstream services provider, centered on Sovcomflot, with a specific focus on operating in the harsh environment and ice conditions”.
SCF Group (Sovcomflot) is one of Russia’s largest infrastructure companies and has its headquarters in St. Petersburg. Its fleet comprises 147 vessels of more than 10.5 million tonnes (dwt) in total. Its current shipbuilding portfolio includes 11 ships of an aggregate 0.9 million tonnes (dwt);
• The average age of the vessels in the tanker fleet is approximately seven years (the world average vessel age being 12 years);
• SCF Group is a world leader in the product carrier segment; it is the second largest in the Aframax and fourth largest in the Suezmax segments;
• The company owns the largest ice-class fleet, being No.1 in the Arctic shuttle tanker and ice-class LNG carrier segments;
• The Group provides its customers with hydrocarbon transportation services; crude oil trans-shipment using floating oil storage vessels; services for the development of effective logistics for energy resource transportation, and specialised vessels for servicing offshore drilling and extraction platforms.
