Rosmorport adds more ferries to Baltiysk - Ust-Luga year-round service

Rosmorport increases the fleet of vessels servicing the Baltiysk (Kaliningrad region) - Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) line, PortNews reports citing the state enterprise press service. There are two ships operating on service: the railway ferry Baltiysk accommodating 12 passengers, the Petersburg with 132 passenger seats (started operating on 27 November 2010). Soon, the Ambal (12 seats), another vessel will be added to the ferries fleet.

As the press service said Rosmorport and Anship company have already reached an agreement to launch in March 2011 the ferry Apollo (250 seats) on the line. To facilitate freight and passenger traffic between Kaliningrad region and the North-West of Russia, Rosmorport plans to attract more cargo and passenger carriers on the line.

The Baltiysk-Ust-Luga line is expected to become a year-round service, By the next summer there will be more departures of passenger ferries than before 2010.

Rosmorport is responsible for preparing the Far East region’s transportation infrastructure to the forthcoming APEC summit to be held in 2012. In this regard, Rosmorport’s ferry Georg Ots, which had previously operated on Ust-Luga – Baltiysk line, was sent from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok to service from 2012 the APEC summit, and later the Far Eastern ferry lines.
