India, Denmark to cooperate in maritime sector
India and Denmark have decided to explore possibilities of cooperation in the areas of ship designing, maritime training and education, off-shore wind energy and GHG Emissions, according to an official statement.
This was agreed upon when Mr Brian Mikkelsen, Danish Minister for Economy and Business Affairs, called on Mr G.K.Vasan, Minister for Shipping, here on Thursday.
The Ministers discussed various issues pertaining to the ongoing negotiations on the India-European Union Agreement on Maritime Sector, Free-Trade Agreement between India and the European Union and cooperation in the maritime sector between India and Denmark.
Both the countries stressed the need for taking counter measures against piracy and armed robbery off the coast of Somalia.
Mr Vasan informed that the Shipping Ministry is in discussion with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Defence to take up a multi pronged approach to deal with the problem of piracy and armed robbery off the coast of Somalia through increased presence of the Navy as also the possibility of presence of a unified force under the command of the UN.
