Ilyichevsk Port’s throughput fall 7.5% in 2010 to 15m tons
Freight volume handled in 2010 at Sea Commercial Port of Ilyichevsk (Odessa region, Ukraine) amounted to 15,055,000 tons, a 7.5% drop from operational results in 2009, the state-owned enterprise report said.
In December, the port handled 1,295,000 tons, 8.1% more than a year earlier. The highest growth rates for the period were demonstrated in the following segments of cargo: shipment of vehicles jumped by 2.3 times, ferry cargoes surged 40%, pig iron – by 6%, sulfur – by 49% , ore – a threefold increase.
SCPI’s monthly container count rose by 26%, while annual container volume increased by 11.7%. In units December volume was up 26.3% to 27,800 TEUs, annual container throughput of Ilyichevsk Port reached 301,500 TEUs.
State-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ilyichevsk) is among four largest Ukrainian ports. The company’s facilities enable handling of over 30 million tons of trade flows a year. The port operates the 6-km-long quay wall with 29 berths. The port has three access railroads and three crossing points for road transport. In 2009, cargo throughput shrank by 13.8% year-over-year, to 16,286 million tons.
