Russian Transport Ministry works out new IW navigation rules
The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has prepared and published a draft order "On Approval of Navigation Rules on Inland Waterways of the Russian Federation." The former order of the Ministry from Dec. 30, 2002(registered No 4088) will expire after the new order goes into effect.
The rules establish that the navigation of vessels on Russia’s Inland Waterways is permitted only under the state flag of the Russian Federation. Based on the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation individual foreign-flagged vessels may be permitted to sail via Russian IW, including transit ships (Article 23 of the Code of Inland Waterway Transport).
