Alexei Klyavin joins the Association of Shipping Companies
Alexei Klyavin took office today as President of the Association of Shipping Companies (ASC). Earlier, he had stepped down as Director of State Policy for Maritime and River Transport of the Transport Ministry. On January 13, he was elected President of ASC at the Association’s general meeting, PortNews reported.
"In my new status I am still going to work for the benefit of the Russian shipping industry, to defend the interests of Russian shipowners, both in Russia and abroad", Mr. Klyavin said in an interview with PortNews.
Alexei Klyavin, as the head of a Transport Ministry’s department, has organized the work for the development of laws on sea ports, the Russian International Ship Register, etc. Also, he was involved in legislative activities related to the status of the Russian Federation in the international maritime industry.
Alexei Y. Klyavin was born in 1954. In 1978 he graduated from Kaliningrad Higher Marine Engineering College majoring in operation and navigation of ships. He worked in various offices in Russia, Portugal and Denmark until 2002.
Since 2003, he continued his career in Russian Ministry of Transport as deputy to the Minister, head of the Department of Shipping Policy. He came into office of Deputy Director of State policy for rail, sea and river transport and in Sept. 2005 he took over as acting director of the department.
On January 19, 2006, Mr. Klyavin was appointed Director of the Department of State Policy for Maritime and River Transport.
Alexei Klyavin was awarded by Russ. Govt titles and medals for his work in the transport industry.
