SILPORT’s cargo throughput soars by 40% to 3,5m tons in 2010

Freigt flows via the port of Sillamae (Estonia) for 2010 surged by 40% year-over-year, to 3,5 million tons, Andrei Birov, CMO of SILPORT JSC (Sillamäe Sadam AS) said in an interview with journalists, Baltic Course reports.

Andrei Birov told about Silport’s plans for 2011 saying a new company to start operating this summer but did not name the operator. Besides, the port expects the construction of a parking lot for trucks carrying goods to Russia to be completed in the summer. The Port Authority has not found yet, Mr. Birov said, a company that would operate the port’s container terminal. In general, he said, the global economy is recovering giving hope that the port will have more jobs.

JSC SILPORT is a joint Russian-Estonian company. In 2009 imports/exports flow through the port’s terminals rose as much as 1.5 times year-over-year, to 2,5m tons.
