Cambodian ports revenues up by 31.3% to $35m in 2010
Two key Cambodian ports saw revenues rose by 31.3% on-year to $35m in 2010 due to an increase in shipments. The Southeast nation's biggest port, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, generated $28.42m of revenues last year, up from $25.15m in 2009, according to official data. Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, the second biggest port, posted revenues of $6.5m in 2010, up from $1.5m in the previous year.
Hei Bavy, director of Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, noted that freight shipped through the port surged around 44% to 62,256 TEUs last year from 43,312 TEUs in 2009. He said that growing shipments of agricultural products, construction materials, clothes, raw materials for the garment sector and other commodities during 2011 will continue to support the port's revenue.
At Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, total shipments in 2010 were 2.21m tonnes, up about 18% year-on-year, according to Ma Sun Hout, the port's deputy director.
