The Bangladesh government is looking in to the bids for construction of the country's first floating terminal for imported LNG, Seatrade-asia reports.? State-owned Petrobangla last week received proposals from 10 global firms to build the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Maiskhali island in the Bay of Bengal.?Petrobangla official said the terminal should be a complete floating LNG receiving terminal with berthing and mooring facility of ships carrying LNG having the capacity of 138,000-260,000 cubic meters, LNG storage and re-gasification unit.?It must have the capacity to handle 5m tonnes of LNG per annum and re-gasification capacity of at least 500m cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas.?An offshore sub-sea pipeline of around 3 km in length has also to be designed and constructed from the floating terminal to the onshore custody transfer metering station at Maiskhali island.?The government expects to build the terminal by 2012 to meet the country's mounting energy crunch.?Petrobangla has already inked an initial agreement with Qatar to import 4 million tonnes of LNG per annum from Qatar Petroleum.
