MV Beluga Nomination pirated off Seychelles
The Beluga Nomination (Antigua and Barbuda flag , operator - Beluga Fleet Management GmbH, Germany) was pirated in the Indian Ocean, off the Seychelles. According to the State Maritime Salvage and Coordination Center, the ship’s crew of 12 includes nationals of Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Philippines).
The cargo ship (2006, 9,775dwt, LOA - 132 m, beam - 16 m, max speed - 7,4 kn. IMO number: 9356402, MMSI number: 304908000, call sign V2BSI) was allegedly attacked 330nm north of Port Victoria. She was transporting steel cargo from Suez port to the Victoria Harbour. All contact with the ship was lost after the attack.
In the afternoon of Jan. 24 the Seychelles Coast Guard got in tough with the shipmaster. According to him the crew is safe and that four pirates are on board, there are no pirate boats in the vicinity of the vessel. The same day a patrol boat of the Seychelles Coast Guard was dispatched to the scene. The number of Russians on board of the vessel is not reported.
